In Moscow’s historic center, any new architecture is measured against tact. This project responds to a task of rare complexity: to reconstruct a late 19th-century urban building and expand it without turning growth into confrontation. The result is a unified business complex that reads as contemporary – in its plasticity, detailing, and engineering logic – while remaining firmly “within the scale of the lane”: precise in height, restrained in silhouette, and respectful of the street line.

CONTEMPORARY ARCHITECTURE WITH A SENSE OF MEASURE

The additional storeys and the five-level extension do not imitate historical forms. Instead, they speak the language of today while obeying the rules of their surroundings. The continuous street frontage is preserved, height limits and proportions are carefully maintained, and technical elements are discreetly screened so as not to disrupt the urban panorama. Light mineral plaster, stone at the base and portals, fine frieze lines, and deeply recessed, rhythmically divided windows shape a façade that feels composed and dignified – understated, yet distinctive.

INFRASTRUCTURE THAT REMAINS UNOBTRUSIVE

Functionally, the building operates as a flexible office framework: open-space floors, meeting rooms, private offices, and service areas are organized in a clear, adaptable logic, accommodating a wide range of usage scenarios. One of the most pressing challenges of the city center – parking – is resolved through a tower-type automated system for 10–12 vehicles, integrated into the new volume and treated as a piece of technology rather than a visual statement.

“Contours of Growth” is architecture where contemporaneity is expressed through precision, not volume – a project that expands the site’s potential while preserving its urban tone.
